Me to You: Best Friends Forever

Something one of my best friends, Emily and I always talk about is the fact that our lives should be a television show. Or that we should be on a television show (Parenthood!!!). Or that Two Broke Girls stole our idea of two girls trying to succeed in the cupcake business (with less sexual references because that is just too awkward for us to handle). Something that my best friend sent me was this new television show, Best Friends Forever. NBC calls it "A boy-meets-girl's-best-friend" comedy, and it's perfect. Emily and I like to joke around and say that its basically us in the future. Here's the full episode for your viewing pleasure! (As a side note, NBC, I love this show. Please do not cancel it!)

Me to You: Love Competition

I'm a sucker for things like this.
Stanford neuroscientists host the world’s first love competition, asking contestants between the ages of 10 and 75 to spend 5 minutes in an fMRI machine thinking deeply about the person they love. The results are certain to bring a tear to your eye.

The older woman at 12:50 made me cry happy tears. I don't know if its the time (12:15am) or what, but things like this get me too emotional! I love love. I love what love does to people.

Me to You: 13/13

Here are 13 songs that I'm obsessively listening to for today, the 13th.

Things We Love: Flowers

Flowers, flowers, and more flowers! With springtime and floral patterned clothing coming soon, I thought now would be a perfect time to post about my current obsession! I believe my love of pastel colours was from my love of fresh, colourful flowers! I recently received some as a surprise the other day. Nothing beats flowers! (Except maybe some lilac hair...)

What are your favourite types of flowers? Mine are pink carnations, mostly because when I was 13 my mum bought me a pink cat and it's name was carnation. But you can never go wrong with roses!

Inspiration: Pastel

I, like many teenagers on the internet, am in love with pastel hair. I think it looks beautiful on everyone, regardless of hair length. I've had friends with orange, blue, teal, and pink hair, and it always looks so good on them!

When I fell in love, it all happened while watching the 2012 Red Carpet coverage for the Oscars. I saw Kelly Osbourne's hair colour, wearing her beautiful sequin embellished gown. I loved it when it was grey, but after she dyed it with a slit purple tint, I fell in love! It's perfect. I really wish I could have this colour, but due to my dark hair and the fact bleaching hair kinda scares me, it may never happen!

Inspiration: Pucker Up!

I love when artists do something out of the ordinary. I found out about Natalie Irish on tumblr. She makes portraits by applying lipstick and puckering up to kiss the canvas. It's so creative and the outcome looks amazing. Check out her paintings here.

Things We Love: Forts

I spent so much of my childhood making forts with friends and my little siblings. I miss making them so much. I made one with my friend, Emily, a year or so ago. We watched Skins and ate meatballs and cupcakes. It was a lovely day. Now I'm itching to make some more with some friends and have a movie marathon.

Things To Do: Dinner Parties

Something that has kinda added on to my Kelsey-can't-wait-to-own-her-own-place-and-decorate is the fact that when I do have my own place, I can be sophisticated and classy and throw dinner parties! Sounds so grown up. The idea of cooking delicious foods and sweets, having a group of friends over in my own place (which would be covered in tea lights!), having wine and talking about life and having a good time sounds so wonderful to me.

Or even better - An OUTDOORS dinner party! Perfect.

I can't wait to throw one! In May, I think I'll throw a little backyard tea party and see how that goes. Baby steps!

Me to You: fun.

You know when you get those cool free song cards from Starbucks? You basically just take it, even if you have no idea if you will like the song or not. That is basically how I discovered the band, Fun. Created after another one of my favourite bands, The Format, breaking up in 2008, Nate Ruesss moved to NYC and formed fun. with Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff. Fun. is described as an "Indie pop/rock" band. The first song I heard from that little card at Starbucks, was "All the Pretty Girls", from their debut album "Aim and Ignite".

On February 21st, their second album, "Some Nights" will be released. I've had an early listen, and it's really good. The song 'Some Nights' is what I've been listening to whenever I walk to each of my classes at college. It makes you want to move and/or join a parade. The band already released the single, "We Are Young", which has already been used on Glee. Check it out below.

I plan on going to see Fun. this April in Toronto, and I'm really excited to hear this album live. Pre-order their album from iTunes here.

Things We Love: Food Blogs

Not a day goes by that my mother doesn't say to me, "Kelsey, all you think about is food." It's true. I love food. I love making food. I love planning get-togethers with friends surrounding around what food we are going to prepare when we are together. Thank God for food blogs.

(Hot Chocolate Bites - Food Coma Blog)

(Vanilla Cupcakes with Raspberry Icing - A Beautiful Mess blog)

My recipe of choice is always sweet. The more sugar, the better. But I do love making dinner dishes. These caramelized brussell sprouts are just screaming to be made.

I'm going to spend my Saturday making food and baking sweets with my good friend, Emily. Enjoy!

Tidbit: Update on life.

Since this blog has began, Laura has been super busy with her new job, so I've been doing most of the posting. Which is totally understandable, of course! I just feel like by updating everyday, I'm not giving enough quality to what I'm posting. I'm the kind of person that needs fire to write about something. I have to be incredibly passionate about it. So I've decided that when I want to talk about a topic on Words of Wisdom Fridays, or post a photo on Wednesday, I will. It may not be every week, but they will be updated within two weeks, at least!

So while everyone is watching the Superbowl, I'm cooped up in bed, studying PMB (you don't want to know what it is if you're not an advertising student. It's basically hell.), and drinking this stuff:

Do you ever just take a moment of your time to reflect on your life? I've been doing that a lot lately. I've been thinking about the things I've done, and how blessed I am to be able to say "I've done that". I've been thinking about things that I want to do in the future (travel), and how am I going to be able to do that (getting another job). Mostly, I've been thinking about dreams. My dreams. Big dreams.

This week I finally figured out what I want to do after school is over, and I've been compiling a list of "21 things to do before I'm 21". I think the best thing you can do is dream. It gives you something to strive for. Dreams can become reality, if you want them to come true badly enough. Don't let anyone stop you from dreaming.
