Things We Love: Food Blogs

Not a day goes by that my mother doesn't say to me, "Kelsey, all you think about is food." It's true. I love food. I love making food. I love planning get-togethers with friends surrounding around what food we are going to prepare when we are together. Thank God for food blogs.

My recipe of choice is always sweet. The more sugar, the better. But I do love making dinner dishes. These caramelized brussell sprouts are just screaming to be made.

I'm going to spend my Saturday making food and baking sweets with my good friend, Emily. Enjoy!

Tidbit: Update on life.

Since this blog has began, Laura has been super busy with her new job, so I've been doing most of the posting. Which is totally understandable, of course! I just feel like by updating everyday, I'm not giving enough quality to what I'm posting. I'm the kind of person that needs fire to write about something. I have to be incredibly passionate about it. So I've decided that when I want to talk about a topic on Words of Wisdom Fridays, or post a photo on Wednesday, I will. It may not be every week, but they will be updated within two weeks, at least!

So while everyone is watching the Superbowl, I'm cooped up in bed, studying PMB (you don't want to know what it is if you're not an advertising student. It's basically hell.), and drinking this stuff:

Do you ever just take a moment of your time to reflect on your life? I've been doing that a lot lately. I've been thinking about the things I've done, and how blessed I am to be able to say "I've done that". I've been thinking about things that I want to do in the future (travel), and how am I going to be able to do that (getting another job). Mostly, I've been thinking about dreams. My dreams. Big dreams.

This week I finally figured out what I want to do after school is over, and I've been compiling a list of "21 things to do before I'm 21". I think the best thing you can do is dream. It gives you something to strive for. Dreams can become reality, if you want them to come true badly enough. Don't let anyone stop you from dreaming.

Me To You: Lana Del Ray

The internet recently exploded with this girl. Her name is Lana Del Ray, and she is an American singer/songwriter whose voice is so bone chillingly beautiful, it makes me want to weep because my singing voice sounds like a dying cow. Her real name is Lizzy Grant, and she used to be a wild child and spend her days writing poetry in coffee shops.

After a little bit of a mess up during SNL, and even though her album was leaked, I can guarantee that her new album, Born To Die, is worth a listen!

Tidbit: Tea Rooms

On Thursday night, I traveled in the rain to my friends house in Niagara Falls. On Friday we drove to America and I bought this beautiful rabbit print dress. I fell in love with it last month but decided to wait to get it until our trip to America happened. (I also may have bought a rabbit print peter pan collared shirt AND a rabbit necklace...). Then we went to an adorable British Tea Room called "The Queen Charlotte Tea Room" and ate like Queen Charlotte herself. Such a lovely adventure! Now to go finish schoolwork..

Words of Wisdom: Week 4

This is a mini version of WoW Friday's! I'm at my home-away-from-home at the moment, I hope you are all having a lovely start to your weekend!

I've spent so much time with so many people who only care about what others think about them. Always asking questions about what so-and-so thinks about them, not wanting to wear certain things because they are worried about what others will say.

I think you should forget all of that. Forget all of the people that only want to judge you and be negative. Wear whatever you like. Find people who bring out the best in you. People who embrace exactly who you are, and whatever you like. If it makes you happy, just do it. Be happy!

Things We Love: Overseas Best-friends.

January 26th 2009 is on my "Favourite Day's" list. On January 26th, 2009, I met a very important human in my life. Over MySpace. Kinda sounds like a bad way to meet your best friend, but I can only thank MySpace and whichever God sent Laura my way.

I think its safe to say that if Laura never decided to comment some random, our lives would be drastically different. I don't remember if Laura added me, or if I added her, but I know we met from a mutual love of ours (The Jonas Brothers). While re-reading our past myspace conversations, it's so funny to see how we typed back then, to see all of the questions we would ask each other ("What do you call ____ in Canada?" "Do you use ____ word in England?"), and it made me really realize how long ago that day feels, and how it also feels like it was just yesterday.

When you tell people that your best friend is from England, they always ask how you know each other. Then you explain that you met over the internet, and then you say it was MySpace, and they basically look at you like you are either: 1) crazy, 2) asking for trouble, or 3) they run as fast as they can because obviously you are crazy to not only befriend someone over the internet, but MEET them in real life? Crazy. Nuts. Insane. You should go to the doctor. Your parents should teach you internet safety. You should really think about finding some friends that live in your city. But the thing is, I love meeting people. I love new people and talking with them about anything and everything. And that is something I can do with Laura.

After talking from January-June, discussing the future and making plans, I made the decision to go on a trip. I went on my first holiday, and went on my first plane, and went out of North America for the first time, and flew to England with my Nanny, to visit our family there, eat delicious food, and to meet Laura in real life. It was so wonderful. It was like meeting your long lost sister.

When I say it feels like it's been years since that January 26th, I mean it feels like that because of everything we've been through. All of the craziness in our lives, whether it be boys, friends, or family, we've always been solid as a rock. We've disagreed, but never have been very angry at one another to the point where we can't speak to one another. We are practically the same person, aside from the fact that our musical tastes are a little bit different sometimes. And she's much better at Temple Run than me.

And it also feels like just yesterday, because even though we know a lot about one another, we not only figure out new things about each other, we never get bored with talking. We literally talk every day. Any day I don't talk to Laura, it's a weird day. It has become part of my daily life. She has become such an important part of my life, I don't know what I would do without her, or what life would be like if she never commented me that January day. It feels like it was just yesterday I was sitting in my living room on my iPod touch, responding to a comment from a girl in Manchester. I remember it so well.

Lots of things have changed during that three years. We may not be into the boy-band that made us friends so much anymore (we always promise to always love them unconditionally, because if it was not for them, we would be strangers), and we live miles apart, but our friendship has not changed one bit. It's still as strong (or even stronger) as it was when I was in England in 2009.

See you in the summer, my beautiful, inspiring best friend. I love you lots.

Photo of the Day: Weddings.

..And the wedding obsession continues. I'm in love with love. And weddings. These photos are from a wedding inspired photo-shoot, which you can find here. Inspired by the woods, these photos are so whimsical and magical - I love it! Even if it wasn't an actual wedding, I think it's perfect.

Inspiration: Tattoos

I know they aren't everyones cup of tea, but lately I've really been interested in tattoos. After seeing my friend Amanda's, I've been especially interested in hand/finger/arm tattoos. Nothing filled in. Nothing too fancy. I really like simplicity, just outlines really!

So in love with this placement of Katy Perry's tattoo. My professors keep telling us that if you get a visible tattoo, you'll have to cover it up while at work. So frustrating! I keep thinking about how this generation will start to take over the workforce and be more open to the idea of tattoos and other things. If I do get a tattoo (fingers crossed!), I'd like to get it on my finger or where Katy has hers!

Me To You: Pinterest!

Pinterest is literally the best thing ever. Almost as cool as ice cream. Think of tumblr, but more visually aesthetic. You basically "pin" things to your boards. As an example:

You can also pin other things from other websites! It's rather great. Since I'm currently in an interior design obsession, I've been pinning lots of different ideas for my future home! And lots of clothing DIY's that I want to do, for example: this DIY to make an elbow patch sweater (that I've been wanting for over a year!). And a variety of photos of Michelle William and Karen Gillan because they have things I want to have: a pixie cut, and red hair.

Pinterest is the perfect website for anyone interested in compiling photos of ideas and objects! You can request an invite to Pinterest here! And feel free to follow mine here!

Sunday: 10 Things

I plan on spending the rest of my Sunday eating truffles, drinking tea, and watching 10 Things I Hate About You, in honour of Heath Ledger, who died 4 years ago today. I've been reading lots of interviews from Michelle discussing Heath, and how they were estranged when he died. When asked if she believes they would've been together, she says "It's one of my favourite things to imagine."

Hope you are all having a lovely Sunday!

Words of Wisdom: Week 3

You are beautiful. I don't think people say that enough to one another. These days, with the media and what not, we feel so pressured to look like others, and we are paranoid about how we look all the time. I know I get like that sometimes. You have to remember that just because you feel this way, that doesn't mean that you are.

I've always wanted to see myself from another perspective. That would be the coolest thing ever, but it'll never happen. It would be so interesting to see yourself in another persons eyes, and see how they see you, and figure out what they are thinking when they see you. Until someone creates an app for that, just feel good about who you are, and how you see yourself. You may think you aren't looking the best one day, but I bet there are many people looking at you thinking, "Wow, what a cool person. We should be friends".

You're a very good person, inside and out. Remember that.

Things We Love: Week 3

Cute Weddings - I'll make a big post about weddings sometime in the future! I love simple things. When I get married, I want it to be very simple, bohemian-like, and very personal. Maybe even a potluck. I don't need glitz and glamour! The flower crown is so perfect. (Memo to self: Wear a flower crown on your wedding day. Or maybe even sooner, just for fun.)

Friends doing great things: My friend Sim has moved from England to New Jersey to study abroad! I wish I had the guts to do that. You can read all about her adventures here!

This video of an (adorable!) new born deer. I'm squealing from the cuteness:

DIY Magazine Display: Such a great idea to display magazines. If I had some extra wall space, I'd do this.

Nice people: I really appreciate nice people. I think it's really easy to be mean nowadays, lots of people are negative and just not nice. Just remember what you put into the world, is what you'll get out of it.

Coldplay: 14 years ago, Coldplay played their first show. You can watch this lovely little film and read little journal entries about their journey here.

Have a lovely night. Be happy!

Photo of the Day: Home Away from Home

Sometimes when I'm not being a hermit, I go away for the weekend to my friends house in Niagara Falls, Canada. When you leave normalcy, you start to really feel inspired. There is nothing I like more than going on adventures, trying new food, thrifting (and finding $300 Louboutin shoes!), watching zombie and disney movies, long life chats at 3 am, and sing-a-longs while driving. Here are a few photos from my trip:

Canadian winter.. no snow!

Night time drives listening to Brand New.

I'm a size 9.. think I could squeeze?

I can't wait to go back again soon.
